Story
The Brathay Trust are a small little known charity based at
Brathay Hall near Ambleside in the Lake District. They work with disadvantaged young people who are struggling in society through drink, drugs, gangs or criminal activity. They show these young people how to make the most of their lives and steer them onto paths to gain steady employment. They do this by working with these young people both in their local communities and on courses at Brathay Hall. Brathay Hall is a magical setting that brings the best out of people and has a lasting impact on all that attend.
Brathay also run two outward bound centres for Wigan Council called Low Bank Ground and Hinning House, where hundreds of local school visit each year to broaden their experiences.
I’ve support Brathay 4 times over recent years by running 10
marathons in 10 days 4 times, something only done by 3 other people.
I’ve been looking for a different challenge to test my
running endurance ability to its limit and I think have found the perfect
challenge with the Equinox 24 event. The race starts at noon on Saturday 17th
September and is a 10km course round the grounds of Belvoir castle,
Leicestershire and finishes at noon on Sunday 18th September. The
goal of the event is to complete as many laps as possible in the 24 hours. This
event is usually run in teams but some runners choose do it solo, I plan to
attempt it solo.
Until now I’ve never run for more than 6 hours, so this will
take me far into the unknown, making it a very serious endurance challenge.
Anything could happen!
I wonder how far I'll run?
I hope you appreciate how significant this challenge is and
find the heart to give me a donation to Brathay to help them touch the lives of
as many disadvantaged young people as possible.
