    Story

Knaresborough Civic Society is raising funds to reinstate the 1887 Jubilee Fountain, which is an important part of Knaresborough’s heritage. The fountain was erected outside the Dropping Well estate to celebrate Queen Victoria’s golden jubilee in 1887 and was paid for by public subscription. Unfortunately at some point in the 20th Century the fountain was dismantled and dumped on private land.

Last year the remains of the fountain were offered by the land owner to Knaresborough’s local history group and the Civic Society offered to help restore the fountain.

The Civic Society intend to restore the fountain on the paved area on Gracious Street. This location was chosen so the fountain would be publicly accessible and visible to large numbers of residents and visitors.

We are trying to raise £5,000 so the fountain can be moved, from the field it is dumped in, to Gracious Street and pay for the work of a stone mason to restore and install the fountain. We have already successfully raised funds to pay for the architects fees and planning application costs.
