In order to mark Red Cross Week on 6-12 May 2012, Joe Greenway & Michael Coleby are embarking on a 1000 kilometre cycle trip from British Red Cross offices in Coventry to the headquarters of the International Committee of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement in Geneva, with the purpose of raising funds for the British Red Cross.
This outstanding journey will take them over the channel from England and across France, before crossing the Alps to reach their final destination at this iconic landmark.
Please help us reach our target and celebrate this remarkable achievement
So, how does the idea of cycling over 650 miles come to being? Well, in this case, a flippant remark made by two very well meaning but ignorant twenty-somethings and a belief that 'if we can cycle to work, Geneva can't be that much harder' is all it took.
Whilst supporting Red Cross Week 2011, we were both fortunate to speak to a chap who was just setting off on a 100 mile cycle from Coventry to London. He like us, had very little experience of long distance cycling, just the belief that it was achievable with the right attitude and in the right company.
That meeting combined with a new found enthusiasm for cycling (we had both just began cycling into work), planted the seed in out tiny brains that we could do something similar, but on a much grander scale. Thus the Coventry to Geneva cycle was born.
