My Story
In April 2009, I was working away from home and living 'the hotel life' for a few weeks. Needless to say, the food and drink took it's toll and one day a pain in my chest scared me into visiting A&E. Thankfully this time it was just a terrible bout of indigestion. This shocked me into realising that my fitness levels were poor, and made me think more about what I was eating and drinking and also sparked an interest in keeping fit and losing a few pounds.
Then in May 2009, I took part in a charity relay race, and after running just 6 laps of a 400m track I realised that at 31 years old, my fitness was worse than I first thought. That was it for me, I was ashamed of myself and with a wife and little girl as well as one on the way, I knew that if only for them I needed to become healthier and fitter.
Thats when my fitness rageme kicked in with regular running, cycling to work, circuit training and swimming, all resulting I a weight loss of 1 stone and an ability to run 10k, non stop in under 1hr.
With 2010 fast approaching, and wanting to continue to improve, I have chalenged myself to compete and complete 10, 10km races in 2010 but I didn;t want to do it just for me and my family so I have chosen (after lots of debate) to raise funds for the Downs Syndrome Association who have been a great help to my friends whose son (and my god son), Joshua has Downs.
So here goes. I'll be updating my page to detail which races I'll be competing in and whilst my quest is to complete 10 races, I have a second quest to complete the last 10km race in under 50 minutes and a third quest to run in the Cardiff Half Marathon in October 2010.
Wish me luck and thanks for reading.
