The aim of the 19th Scout Group is to provide high quality scouting to a socially and economically deprived area of Swindon and to contribute to the development of young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potentials, as individuals, as responsible citizens and as members of their local, national and international communities.
We deliver the purpose and methods of scouting through a balanced programme of learning zones. The philosophy underpinning the programme is that every Scout should participate in a Balanced Programme over a period of time. Each Zone represents a different development area in a young person's life. There are six Programme Zones in the Scouting Section. They are: Beliefs and Attitudes, Community, Fit for Life, Creative Expression, Global and Outdoor and Adventure. Our memebership is approx 90 Young people, and the group is open to anyone over the age of 6, regardless of gender, faith, race, physical or mental ability. We have a leadership team of 10 adult voulunteers, and a small committee of 6 adults. Adults in scouts do not receive payment for the service they provide, and none of our donations are spend on administration costs.
By donating to our activities fund, we will be able to offer all the Young people in the Group, regardless of the financial situation at home, the ability to part in a range of adventurous and exciting physical activities, to help them improve fitness, stamina, and strength. It will also improve other life skills such as communication skills, leadership skills, confidence, responsibility for themselves, their possessions and each other, and teamwork.
We aim to use Scouting Activity centres to offer sporting challenges such as Leap of Faith, Jacobs Ladder, Zip Wires, Sailing, Raft building, Ice climbing, Pot holing, Grass Sledging, Archery, Shooting, BCU, and RYA courses, the possibilities are endless, finance is the limiting factor. These activities fit into the overall Fit for Life learning zone as set out in Scouting PolicyThe positive change we want to bring to the young people is that physical activity, fitness and a healthy lifestyle is important but can be fun and exciting, and result in a life long hobby.
The average cost for each activitiy per hour is £44 for each group of 10 children, and each activitity will be suitable for the age and ability of the groups we take on each occassion.Your donations no matter how much or how little will make all the difference to this project and offer the Young people experiences and learning opportunities that will stay with them for life.
Thank you so much for your time.Angela McCluskie (Bagheera), Cub Scout Leader, 19th Swindon Cub Pack,, membership number 00287350
