Story

The HQ 2 Div EH Coast to Coast 10 Hour Cycle Challenge

UPDATE  02 Apr 10

Well, we managed to complete the 161km coast to coast cycle in 8hrs 10mins of gruelling time in the saddle.  We had reasonable weather but some hard headwinds and punishing, steep, long hill climbs combined with occasional hailstorms made things, erm, interesting!  Many thanks to all those who have donated so far and if you haven't had the opportunity yet, please dig deep!

Jamie Inglis is the 4 year old son of John, a serving member of the Royal Army Medical Corps.  Jamie has a rare and aggressive form of cancer called Neuroblastoma and has already endured several rounds of chemotherapy and surgery to remove a large tumour and an affected kidney.  However, even after the pain and trauma of undergoing such treatment, the chances of a relapse are high.  Jamie is a fighter and, against all odds, keeps smiling.  That said, his best chance of survival lies off these shores in the Untied States where a pioneering new treatment could significantly increase his chances of survival - but it costs £250,000.

To this end, the HQ 2 Div Army Environmental Health Team are joining the fight to raise money for Jamie by attempting to cycle across England, coast to coast, following Hadrians wall - in just 10 hours!  Naturally, such a ridiculous event could only be undertaken on April Fools Day, so the 1st April 2010 will see sore legs, numb bums and, no doubt, the odd sense of humour loss as we battle the elements and traverse the Pennine hills from Bowness to Tynemouth.

Please support our challenge by digging deep and donating whatever you can afford in support of our efforts and, more importantly, the Inglis family so Jamie can be a big brother to his new baby sister.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Thanks again.

About the charity

The 2Simple Trust helps families of children suffering from neuroblastoma. Help is given by the provision of financial assistance for treatment and other needs as well as the funding of research into the disease. This work will shortly be transferred to a new charity set up specifically for the purpose and called The Neuroblastoma Children’s Cancer Alliance.
