This year I am running for the Bristol-based Charity one25 again. There are an absolutely amazing charity - just look at what they did in 2009:
In 2009, the caseworkers helped 77 women of whom: 29 exited street sex-work and/or maintained their exit; 48 accessed drug treatment; 31 stopped using drugs/alcohol altogether; 77 accessed health services; 28 benefited from therapies; 30 were securely housed; 14 kept their children safely in their care; 20 made positive contact with their families and were reunited with their children and 32 were in training, education or employment.
They do several things to help women caught up in the sex trade in Bristol including:
Night Outreach (3163 visits in 2009)
Drop-in (91782 visits in 2009)
Naomi House
Night Outreach
The women often make first contact with One25 through meeting us during outreach. Our van goes out 5 nights per week and provides nutritious food, hot drinks and a chance to talk and get advice in a safe space. We give access to a mobile phone to contact emergency hostels, information on ‘ugly mugs’ (perpetrators of street violence), warm clothes, personal alarms, first aid, condoms and more. Once a week experienced staff and volunteers go out on foot to speak individually with the women, especially the younger ones who are sometimes more reluctant to open up on the van in front of others
Drop in
Naomi House
Naomi House is a unique mother and baby home offering intensive support to women who want to break free from addiction and sex-work and give their babies a better start in life. Residents engage in therapies and practical skills sessions and receive intensive parenting support. The project enables vulnerable families to transform their lives and reach their full potential together.
