Fundraising for Ulster Wildlife
Story
On the 3rd and 4th of August 2013 I will attempt to break the world record of the longest cold water scuba dive by spending 24 hours underwater in the cold, murky, fast flowing water of Strangford Lough, Northern Ireland.
I will enter the water at 1800hrs near the site of the Empire Tana Wreck, locally know as the Inner Lees, in Portaferry on a daring adventure to break the world record while raising funds for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, Marine Conservation Society, Ulster Wildlife Trust and the Irish Whale and Dolphin Group.
I will be supported by an extraordinary team of support divers consisting of current and past QUBSAC (Queen’s University of Belfast Sub-Aqua Club) members, DV Diving, Belfast Sub-Aqua Club and Castreagh sub-aqua club as well as a select group of experienced divers affiliated with the club. The event will be witnessed by the BSAC regional coaching team and there will also be a large surface support team made up of various club members and hopefully many others who will help out and show their support.
The event will be streamed live from under the sea via Ustream but everyone is welcome to come along to the dive site when we make our attempt. We are hoping to gather friends and family, to challenge our diving skills, to support and raise funds for marine charities while having loads of fun in the process. Hopefully we will see you there!
