We provide a lifetime of support to the wider Army Family.

Story

I, along with 3 of my friends, have decided to take part again in the 24 hour 3 Peaks Challenge on 17th april 2010 for the army benevolent fund,

WHAT IS THE 24 HOUR 3 PEAKS CHALLENGE??

The Three Peaks Challenge involves climbing the three highest peaks, respectively, in England, Wales and Scotland, within 24 hours. The Peaks are:

•Snowdon (Wales - 1085m)
•Scafell Pike (England - 978m)
•Ben Nevis (Scotland - 1344m)

It is a popular misconception that the three peaks in question are in fact the three highest in Britain,Over one hundred peaks in Scotland are higher than Scafell Pike, and 56 higher than Snowdon.
Target times are generally suggested as being around 4 hours for Snowdon, and 5 hours for Ben Nevisand Scafell Pike. In itself this time isn't unrealistic for most relatively fit people, but it's certainly not a gentle walk, and when three climbs are required within 24 hours the Challenge becomes more difficult, draining your energy and depriving you of sleep.

WHO ARE THE ARMY BENEVOLENT FUND??

The Army Benevolent Fund (ABF) is the Soldiers' Charity. We provide support to soldiers, former soldiers and their families in times of need.

We work in partnership with Regimental and Corps Benevolent Funds and in co-operation with other Service charities. We identify and investigate eligible cases in "real need", and provide them with financial support.

The ABF supports serving soldiers, former soldiers and their families in times of need.

Support is given in two ways:

•Grants to individuals
•Grants to charities
Individual need can range from an electric wheelchair or a stair lift for an injured former soldier to care home fees for a Second World War veteran or a much needed holiday for a war widow and her young children.

Dependent on voluntary donations, the ABF must currently raise around £5.5 million each year to continue its vital work.
