**** BEHIND EVERY GREAT SURGEON IS A FANTASTIC SECRETARY!!!!****

Hi All

We are two secretaries who work for the Yorkshire Cancer Centre, Institute of Oncology Bexley Wing.  We work with consultant surgeons, Mr Sue-Ling, Mr Dexter, Mr Sarela and Mr Hayden, who all carry out numerous lifesaving resections for people that have unfortunately developed cancer.

As part of the Yorkshire Cancer Centre's £10m appeal we are taking part in "Trek China" September 2010.  This will involve trekking along "The Great Wall" over 5 days.  In order to do this we need to raise a minimum of £5700 of sponsorship between the two of us.

Sandra’s story

My  mum was diagnosed with lymphoma (cancer of the blood) 2 years ago. Thankfully she is now in remission.   During this time she has endured numerous hospital visits, admissions, major surgery and chemotherapy.  Without the YCC and her sheer determination,  I have no doubt in my mind that I would no longer have my mum here today.  The work, experience of staff, facilities and dedication  at the YCC are without doubt “The best”   With your help, we can make the YCC even better.    I am taking part in  Trek China 2010 as I want to give something back to them.  I can not thank the centre enough for what they have done for my mum.  Paula has supported me and my mum throughout this awful period in our lives and I will always keep her in my heart, She is even travelling to the other side of the world with me! and that’s what I call friendship!!!

Paula's story

One of my best friends , Sarah, was diagnosed with breast cancer 7 years ago at the early age of 34, we were all shocked at the news and Sarah went on to have surgery, chemotherapy and then went on to have further surgery, It's been no easy task for Sarah and her family but she has fought so hard to have the life she has now.  She, like everyone else deserves to have a life and this would not have been able without the wonderful caring environment that we are so fortunate to have at the Yorkshire Cancer Centre!!

So we fully understand the importance of this fantastic hospital not just on a employee basis

Your money will  will enhance patient treatment and care to make this world class facility  a leading force in the early prevention, diagnosis, treatment and aftercare of this indiscriminate disease that still affects one in four lives in the UK.  Our patients deserve the best cancer treatment and care available. The Yorkshire Cancer Centre is already the largest centre of its kind in Europe but more importantly, we want it to be the best!
