My story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

***UPDATE***  At 3.30pm on Thursday 3rd June, we finally arrived in St Davids, Pembrokeshire.  We cycled 388 miles in total and had to endure all that the British weather could throw at us!  We had relentless rain, strong head-winds and (on the day that included our most gruelling climbs) blistering sunshine.

Beth and I survived the ride in better shape than Gloria however, worn headset bearings, dissintegrated pedal bearings, 3 punctures and 2 rear wheel re-builds (spokes kept snapping under the weight of two cyclists and 50lbs of gear took their toll on our trusty steed!

As for us, we were totally thrilled to have arrived at our destination completely under our own steam (even if we did have to push Gloria up one or two steep hills!).  Our legs and bottoms are recovereing well, so much so that Beth even wanted to cycle to school this morning!  But most importantly we are thrilled with all the support we have recieved.  I would like to thank all of those who have sponsored us online and offline, My wife Sarah and my Son Tom, who gave up their half term to support us on the ride (never too far away in case of emergencies and met up with us at pre-arranged stops to refuel us with chocolate cake and positive words of encouragement! Thank you! xxx) and every one else who supported us in so many different ways from cups of tea on route and drumming up sponsorship from people to just believing in us - Thank you!!!

Beth has really amazed us all in completing this epic physical challenge, I sometimes find it hard to believe she is only 11!  She says the hardest things about the ride were missing Mum and Tom, her aching legs, the thought of getting back in the saddle each morning and having to 'spend a penny' behind the hedgerows!!  I think she is just amazing!!

On the 29th of May, Beth and I will be setting off on a 360 mile coast to coast tandem cycle ride on our trusty steed Gloria.  We will be pedalling from Lowestoft to St David's Head on the Pembrokeshire coast in Wales.  We hope to complete our adventure in 6 days, averaging about 60 miles a day.  We will be as self sufficient as possible during the ride, carrying everything we need from tent and sleeping bags to washing-up liquid and toilet paper!! Whilst planning the trip, we could not ignore the chance to raise some money for a good cause.  We have chosen to raise money for jole rider who provide bicycles for children in remote areas of Africa in order for them to be able to attend schools that may be many miles from their villages.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So if you are able to sponsor us, no matter how much, please, please do!!!

For thousands of children in Africa, having a bike from jole rider means they are getting an education. Without a bike, they would still be walking miles in searing heat, arriving at school exhausted. We also deliver books and other education resources to schools to boost learning and literacy.
