Now in it's 33rd year, the 3 Peaks Yacht Race is combined sailing, running & cycling event which sees a team of 5 sailing from Barmouth to Fort William climbing the highest peaks in Wales, England & Scotland along the way.  The entire race involves a total of 389 miles of difficult coastal sailing, 26 miles of cycling and 72 miles of running, with approximately 14,000 feet of ascent, including 2000 feet between Ennerdale and Scafell Pike.

Competing in the race has been an ambition of Andy for many years, but last year, having done the 36 hour 3 Peaks event all the pieces fell into place & 4 willing/foolish volunteers were found to make competing a reality.  Andy, Ewart, Duncan, Rob & Richard are team On & Up for this years race.

We are trying for the Tilman trophy which means 4 members summiting & the plan is:

Snowden (24 miles walking/running) - Ewart & Andy

Scarfell (26 miles cycling, 26 miles walking/Running) - Ewart & Richard

Ben Nevis (17 miles walking/running) - Ewart & Rob/Duncan

So we are all going to be running at least a half marathon equivalent & Ewart will be doing some mega triathalon; especially if we make him swim ashore on 1 leg :-)

We are collecting for 2 charities - Breast Cancer Haven (who supported Andy & Duncan's Mum/Rob's wife through a difficult 2009) & Help for Heroes (As 4 of the team are or were in the forces).  Your support for either, or both, these very worthwhile charities is greatly approciated so please dig deep & don't forget the gift aid.

Thanks

Team On & Up

PS Richard Garbutt is now off to Afghanistan so we've found another Richard to replace him :-)
