As some of you may know I am going to China in April for two and a half months. During my trip I have set myself the challenge of cycling 3000 km in 30 days and am hoping to raise £3000 for the Alzheimer’s Society. The choice of charity is because my Grandparents on both sides suffered from Alzheimer’s over the last 10 years, which has not only been a strain on them but also on others around. The Alzheimer's Society is the leading UK care and research charity for people with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias, their families and carers.

The plan is to set off from Beijing, stop off in Shanghai and end up in Hong Kong. This totals just over 3,000km, which is the equivalent of cycling from London to Istanbul. I am planning on doing an average of 100km a day and camping most nights. Not only will I be calling my brother who is out there in Shanghai at the moment to make sure I’m safe everyday, but also, I will have a check point every three days to keep a blog of my travel as well as wash/charge batteries/food supplies... Therefore, if you would like to be updated on how the trip is going I will add you to the mailing list. If you donate you will be automatically added.

I have been training for over a month now, which largely includes an hour either side of work and 100km cycle rides to and from Bristol on the week-ends. It has been a hard slog so far especially as I started the training on a £20 bike, which I got from our gardener. When I realized that my brother could beat me on a bike with no gears I decided it was definitely time to get a new bike. This new (10 year old and used) road bike has enabled me to whip my previous records and put my average speed up to 16mph. I will be training on this for the rest of my time in England and then buying a bike in China to train on and to complete the challenge.

I would very much appreciate any sponsorship small or large as it really helps me to keep going.
