My story

Hi, my name is Matthew Stein and I am 16 years old. My friends and I, Dave Freeman and James Thorpe, all attend Canford School in Dorset. In March ’07, I had a double lung transplant at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH). It was a great success and I owe my life to Tom, my donor, and the superb skills and care of the cardiothoracic  transplant team there.
I raised £3,150 last summer for “Hearts for Kids”, the GOSH cardiothoracic transplant charity as a way of saying thank you for saving my life.
This year I want to raise even more and have asked Dave and James to help me. They are both talented triathletes and are passionate about their sport, and like me are keen to raise as much as possible for “Hearts for Kids”. In the process we also hope to raise awareness for organ donation.
Here are some facts as stated on the “Live life then Give life” website about organ donation in this country:

-Although 90% of the population support organ donation, only 22% of the population are on the organ donor register.

-Over 6500 people are currently waiting for a transplant.

-Less than 3000 transplants are carried out each year.

-Last year over 400 people died whilst waiting for a transplant.

We hope that by undertaking this ride, we can help change some of those figures.
Thank you for visiting our site and any donation, however small, would be really appreciated. Thank you.
