WE DID IT!!!
Yep, all 7 of the group got down off Snowdon within the 24 hour period to complete the National Three Peaks Challenge successfully.
Even an hour before starting the last Peak the mood in the mini bus was downhearted due to terrible tailbacks on the way into Wales. Roadworks, bridge repairs and a suicide attempt had a massive knock on effect and time was against us as we made our way to Snowdonia. But thanks to Alan and all his efforts behind the wheel over the course of the challenge, we made it to Snowdon with about 3 hours and 20 minutes left to complete the challenge in time...
Scafell Pike in the Lake District was the next target and at 5am we began again. At 978m it is the smallest of the 3 but possibly the toughest with its more "natural" routes and remote location. After a hard and endless descent, a great time of 3 hours and 20 minutes was clocked and we set off for the final peak.
Driving like a rally driver (but in a 62mph speed-limited mini bus) we pushed off and made great time - all the way to the Welsh border. Due to unforeseen circumstances we were at the back of a very VERY long queue of traffic with all the time we had banked slipping away...
Somehow we made it through to Pen-y-Pass but with barely enough time to consider starting the climb. We'd refuelled and redressed ourselves en route and leapt out of the mini bus with a deadline of 6pm looming as we faced the 1085m peak of Snowdon. 3 hours and 20 minutes was all we had to complete the final peak and the challenge as a whole.
Pushing harder than ever, we made our way up the Miners Track. It was 2.40pm, the sun was blazing and there were people everywhere. We needed to get through all of them and to the top within 2 hours to stand a chance.
So please, help us to help Cancer Research UK and donate now. We would all love to reach our target of £2000.
Massive thanks from Alan, Carol, Chris, Dan, Ian, Joanna, Laszlo and Petr.
***UPDATE***
Hello all and welcome to our Just Giving page for Cancer Research UK.
A group of us crazy people decided to give up our weekends and train to do the National Three Peaks Challenge this year (http://www.thethreepeakschallenge.co.uk/).
On Friday 4th June at around 5pm we will set off up Ben Nevis in Scotland and make it down before night fall. Only to be whisked on to Scafell Pike in the Lakes ready for an approximate start time of 3am. Up and down as quickly as possible so we can make it to Snowdon in Wales for a finish time as much before 5pm on Saturday 5th as possible.
All in all it's around 25 miles of walking (some near vertical!) and around 450 miles of driving. Quite a lot to fit into 24 hours.
We have decided to support a charity that does a lot of work for something that will affect everyone, one way or another. Cancer Research UK (http://www.cancerresearchuk.org/).
So please give generously, or as much as you can, and be a part of the challenge and the solution to cancer.
Thank you very much.
Please pass this page on to friends and family as we have set ourselves a big target and we would love to reach it.
PS: There'll be lots more images and words to added to the page when we have some spare time.
