My story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

The Memorial Motorcycle Marathon took place between the 1st – 4th Oct 09.  Despite a wide spectrum of weather fronts including rain, fog and gale force winds the event was deemed an overwhelming success by all who participated.

So far over £4,374.23 has been collected either on route or through the just4giving websites for the charities Help4Heroes and the Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund.

A big thank you for all the riders and enablers who participated and their efforts on route, but an extra special thank you to all those who donated and contributed to raise such a fantastic amount.

During a recent Operational Tour of Afghanistan, 45 Commando Royal Marines suffered a number of casualties killed or wounded in action.  Some of these men were keen motorbike riders and were known to enjoy rides over challenging scenic roads.

The idea of a commemorative motorbike ride was born in the aftermath of some of the incidents on HERRICK 9 and was seen as a fitting commemorative of our fallen.  The plan has developed since thenand it is now intended to collect funds for Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund and the Help 4 Heroes, as well as well as enjoying some challenging rides over a four day period.  The route will take in some roads in Scotland and Northern England from Wednesday30th Sep 09 to Sunday 4th Oct 09.

We hope to raise as much as possible for both charities who contribute so much to the service community and at the same time remember our comrades.  If you wish to donate towards our event for the Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund then please do so through this web page. Alternatively if you wish to donate towards our event for Help 4 Heroes then please do so through the following link: http://www.justgiving.com/45-Commando-RM-Memorial-Motorcycle-Marathon/
