Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Alzheimer’s disease has had a devastating effect on both myself and my family. Having recently lost a dear family member to Alzheimer’s disease we have experienced how this illness completely robs a person of their personality, dignity, choice and above all Life. We had to sit on the sidelines completely helpless to give any comfort, normality, or emotional support. Our previously proud, strong, moralistic, hardworking Dad, Grandad and father-in-law had gone, but was cruelly still here. As a family we felt more should be done in the terms of helping carers come to terms with the roller coaster emotional journey of losing someone to Alzheimer’s. We also believe that the person themselves should be dedicated more one to one support, to help them adjust to their new world. Visiting times often ended in tears due to overworked staff, frustrated families, and bewildered patients. Private health care should not be the only way to ensure exceptional care; it should be a fundamental right for every patient and carer! All of this obviously costs a great deal of money to achieve, and this is why I feel so strongly about raising money to help the Alzheimer’s Society. The more money raised means further research can be done. At present there is not a cure to stop the progression of Alzheimer’s disease. Day care, day centres, specialist wards, and support groups would all benefit greatly from additional funding. But above all the patient themselves will benefit. Please help me help Alzhemeirs suffers and their families towards a better future. Any donation, large or small could make a difference to someones life.
