My story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

*** STOP PRESS ***

26 March 2012 - I am pleased to say that I have completed 1,101km in the last 12 months and achieved a massive personal best time of under 49 minutes for a 10k race yesterday.  Even more brilliant is that I have gone through the £1,500 fundraising mark.

There are a few people still wanting to sponsor me so I'll wrap up the grand total in one month's time!

***********************

26 February 2012 - As I complete my eleventh month of running I've reached a million metres, or 1,000km.  I'm now pushing to reach 1,100km by the end of the challenge on March 25th at the Carterton 10k.  Please give generously to help me achieve the revised fundraising target of £1,100.

***********************

11 December 2011 - this morning I completed my 800th kilometre and raised my 813th pound - that's 3 months & 16 days ahead of schedule, so now my sights move to £1000 and 1000km, or as I like to refer to it: one million metres!

Remember - every pound I raise will be doubled by my company!

************************

My company, the Stewart Milne Group, has selected Maggie's Cancer Centres as their charity of the year and, as a charity close to my heart, I have set myself a personal challenge to help with the fundraising.

I have run on and off for a few years having completed the Great North Run and some 10k races but never really kept going in between so I have set myself the goal of covering 800km in a year - the distance between Maggie's Oxford (my local centre) and Maggie's Aberdeen (the centre local to my company's head office) - via road races, training and the treadmill.

My initial target is to raise £800 - £1 for every kilometre of the journey. And as part of our company fundraising every pound I raise will be doubled by Stewart Milne, so please be as generous as you can.

Any donation you can make is gratefully received and appreciated by myself and Maggie's.

I'll drop updates here but for more regular updates please follow me on twitter: @running_dan_w or check out my blog here

13 June 2011 - I have now covered 25% of my challenge distance: 201 of the 800km!

01 June 2011 - found another way to motivate me to cover the distance: Juneathon, a challenge to run (or exercise) every day in June

27 May 2011 - 133/800km covered

19 May 2011 - with the help of 3 long runs in Central Park whilst on holiday (I have a very understanding wife!) I've reached 110/800km (that means I'd just be leaving the M42 to join the M6 at Birmingham)

27 April 2011 - 53/800km covered (that would put me just north of Banbury on the M40!)

27 March 2011 - the challenge begins with the Carterton 10k
