8 Marathons in 8 Days....
As some of you may remember the photos, a couple of years ago I cycled the 1000 miles from John O Groat’s to Lands End on a highlighter pink Tandem Bike for charity. It was THE BEST thing I ever did and I have ever since been itching to do something similar/more ridiculous. So I have decided to turn my attentions to running/jogging/hiking/crawling/crying from Coast to Coast in 8 days..... This is 190 miles.... A marathon EVERY DAY for 8 days...ouch! Starting at St Bees in the Lake District and finishing at Robin Hoods Bay in Yorkshire (t’up north).
I will be starting my journey on Sunday 1 May 2011 and ending it on Sunday 8 May 2011. For my pain, joggers nipple and blisters I would like to raise even more than last time (£5000) and will be splitting the donations to 2 very amazing charities!! Along the route I will have friends and family joining me for a few miles at a time and if you are interested in joining me for a day or even just a few miles please do (even my amazing Granddads’ joining me on one day).
Half of proceeds will go to ‘The Braveheart Programme’, a charity established for veterans of HM Forces, by veterans (my father being one of them). Its aim is to improve the care of those who devoted their lives to the forces by researching the effects of war-trauma on soldiers. I chose this charity as it is very close to home for myself (being from a heavily military upbringing) and many of my friends and family. I have seen firsthand the effects of post-military life and PTSD and it would be an honour to help fund the current research taking place.
My second charity is ‘Worldwide Helpers’ a charity which aims to foster partnerships between volunteers and charitable organisations worldwide. It attempts to break down the financial barriers of volunteering by offering only low/no cost projects. As a friend of those running this charity I have seen for myself the work that is carried out by this wonderful charity I want to help use my donations to fund their next project-building an orphanage in Ghana.
Please please please donate to this fantastic fund (even if just £1) and help me reach my target of £5000!!
Much Love, Hollie
Ps. If anyone can help in any other way please don’t hesitate to contact me on holliedgrant@gmail.com (ie knows someone along the route, friends with a hostel owner, are a millionaire who would like to pay for my accommodation one night etc)
