The Challenge:
5 girls; 365 miles; 8 days; 3 methods of transport; 9 packs of foxhounds; 2 causes.
During the winter we can be found in the Berwickshire countryside. This summer we're getting fit - we've challenged ourselves to cycle, ride and run our way between these far flung parts of Scotland from 4 and 11 September. Others are joining us for a single days along the way and we’ll have an all important support van, driven by our all important technical/nutritional/emotional support guy - Rory Boswell. From the start near Stonehaven we’ll sweat our way as far west as Houston, Renfrewshire; as far south as Terregles, Dumfriesshire; and finish back in the eastern part of the Borders near Duns, Berwickshire.
The Causes (50% to each):
(1) The Eloise and Katie Memorial Trust, was founded in 2003, by family and friends of sisters Eloise and Katie Plunkett, whose lives were both tragically cut short – Eloise by skin cancer aged 27, following the loss of Katie from leukaemia at 16. The Trust funds a wide range of projects for children and young people in the - for those well or unwell, perfectly behaved or heading in the wrong direction, but all in need of much help or encouragement. Without our help funding would often be hard to come by and young people would lack the opportunities created – perhaps the simple opportunity of a playground in a deprived area; perhaps the life changing opportunity of a work related travel scholarship; perhaps the attitude changing opportunity of a young offender riding and caring for a horse. www.eloiseandkatie.com
(2) The Berwickshire Hunt and has gone through many transformations in its long history. Now working within the Protection of Wild Mammals () Act 2002, it plays a big part in the local community, with supporters from all walks of life, in a county with one of the lowest population densities in the . Also so beneficial are the spin offs for preservation of wonderfully varied countryside and rich wildlife, and the introduction of new generations to the joys of both. There is a major fundraising effort this year to help secure the future, as the kennels return to their traditional home at Briery Hill, Duns and talented young huntsman Rory Innes is welcomed as Joint Master.
How you can help: Donating through JustGiving is simple and secure. Once you donate they’ll send your money to the Eloise and Katie Memorial Trust, reclaiming Gift Aid on eligible donations by taxpayers. This trust has then pledged to pass on 50% of all funds raised through this JustGiving site to The Berwickshire Hunt.
So please join our challenge by donating generously now…
