Hi again, and this time it is to say that I've successfully completed the first ever London to Paris group event by folding bike!
The thirty of us created millions of French Revolutions with our tiny wheels as we battled up steep hills, into strong headwinds which were gusting at 50 to 60 kph and using all the gears our folding bikes had [for me that is a generous 6, for others only 2 or 3] and we triumphantly arrived at the Eiffel Tower on Saturday 12th September at about 5pm. For some in the group it was their first big activity since a heart attack or a life threatening accident. Thousands of pounds has been raised for different charities and I want to thank again those of you who have supported me for the Medical Foundation.
cheers!
Alan
Hi,
I am a big enthusiast for folding bikes - they are just so useful; I take mine into cafes, cinemas, on the train and recently I've been cycling 50, 60, 70 miles around the Northumberland countryside getting practice to bike from London to Paris, which is a really challenging journey of 260 miles in four days, only for folding bikes. it starts on Wednesday 9th September and you can follow our progress on the Facebook group page
http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=75179230840
It is indeed a long way to Paris on little wheels. i think it is about a third of a million pedals, which seems a lot....
I content myself when it all seems just a bit too much that it is nothing like the torture my clients experienced in their home countries - that puts a lot of perspective on it all. Most of you know that I am the Manager of the Centre for the Medical Foundation for the Care of Victims of Torture in the North East of England, the only UK charity dedicated exclusively to providing treatment and care to survivors of torture [www.torturecare.org.uk].
I hope that you might be able to assist our work by supporting this challenge. in these difficult financial times it is hard to find the extra money to support charities and our essential work is at risk due to our income falling.
Please do what you can.
Many thanks
Alan
