Story

Thanks for visiting my page where I have been raising money in support of The Prostate Cancer Charity, by walking a million steps - 500 miles - in the past few months.

I personally know several people who have this very common type of cancer - indeed, my brother is one of them. He is 72, but I also have a friend whose son died recently of the disease as he was not diagnosed in time to save his life.

I decided to try for A Million Steps as I spent 2011 trying to get fitter and a bit slimmer, and the Saga Organisation followed my progress in their monthly magazine and on their website www.saga.co.uk/health/judith-wills where I have a weekly blog. I wanted to raise money while I tried to do this, and walking to help beat prostate cancer seemed a great idea.

Walking has been harder than it should for me as I was nearly immobile through 2010 due to a fall and consequent inactivity. For many years I wrote 'diet' and 'fitness' books for a living so it is quite ironic that I have recently found myself very out of shape!!

I walk around my home area - the Welsh/Hereford border country, beautiful - as well as around towns, and I also have a treadmill.

Update - November 2011: I have just climbed Pen y Fan, S. Wales's highest peak. Halfway up the ascent of that peak, I finally passed my Million Steps (verified by independent adjudicators each week) - and my Challenge was complete. Hooray! I have raised quite a lot of money offline within my local community and I shall be sending the money off to the Prostate Cancer Charity any day now.

Maybe I will do a similar Challenge next year, too!

Donating is easy, quick and safe with JustGiving – they won't sell your details or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on eligible donations.
