AYP Welfare Fund
The Welfare Fund is a small grant-making scheme run by Ansar Youth Project to benefit disadvantaged children and young people under the age of 25 years young people in need.
The Welfare Fund has four main priorities:
- To reduce suffering or relieve distress;
- To increase access to educational opportunities or employment;
- To improve health and general well-being;
- To present opportunities for informal learning, youth-work or life-skills development
Examples of the kind of cases we support include:
Clothes and basic toiletries for a 19 year old girl who fled from her husband after suffering domestic violence.
A 19 year old boy who never succeeded at academic education but needed help to train as a football coach to access employment and build a future career.
Specialist therapy unavailable on the NHS for a 24 year old boy who was diagnosed with schizophrenia.
Recreational opportunities for a 14 year old girl who cares for a disabled mother, and looks after her younger siblings whilst achieving well at school.
Anger management training for a 17 year old youth offender with several convictions for violent behaviour who wanted to reduce his offending and tendency to get into fights.
All requests for funding are confidential and scrutinised by a panel of Community Leaders and Youth Workers. If appropriate, beneficiaries are expected to sign an agreement saying that they will commit a certain number of hours towards voluntary service in the community. Where our funding has a direct impact on the employment of the beneficiary, the grant is offered fully or partially as a flexible interest-free loan.
