As highly inexperienced and frankly utterly useless travellers, we thought it would be an excellent idea to take on Bummit’s legendary hitchhike challenge. We shall attempt to travel from Sheffield to Budapest on a measly £15 relying solely on the charitable nature of friendly strangers.

Our chance of success can perhaps be predicted by the fact that on discovering the intended destination, we both immediately had to resort to Google maps in order to locate it. This was followed immediately by Abi’s fairly inaccurate reaction of “Oh my God! It’s practically in Russia!” Abi has an impressive track record of missing trains, spontaneously departing coach’s mid-journey and misplacing her passport in various countries. Further to this, after I have escorted her to Budapest, I will have full responsibility of placing her on an aircraft home despite the fact that she will undoubtedly be in a spaced-out valium induced state. If any of you have ever flown with Abi, I feel that you must surely understand that this alone deserves your sponsorship.

So pretty please dig deep in your pockets and raid your piggy banks to support us as we face the difficulties and dangers of strange men in ven, perverted Europeans, sleeping rough and potential starvation, all made slightly more complex with tricky language barriers.

Of course all our efforts are in the name of charity. A percentage of the money we raise will go to the Sheffield Teenage Cancer Trust Unit, a charity devoted to improving the lives of teenagers and young adults living with cancer. It aims to allow the patients to live out their lives as ‘normal’ teenagers. It really is an excellent cause which is very close to our hearts.

The rest of the money will be split between two very worthwhile charities based in Sheffield:

Catch 22 – this provides a service to 15 to 25 year olds involved in criminal activities. This charity works with their families and communities so that young people become more productive, independent and therefore the whole community benefits.

Fable – this promotes awareness of epilepsy through education and publicity with money used towards Vagus Nerve Stimulation Therapy which is a treatment for those with epilepsy which cannot be controlled with medicine alone. They support the Epilepsy Information Drop in Centre in Sheffield and help the families of those affected by this condition.

Every penny counts and any donation you can make will be very much appreciated. If you wish to donate but are unable to do so online please contact us as personal donations are still very much acceptable. You can track our progress (or lack of) on the Bummit website. We will provide further details about this closer to the time.

Please help us.

We really need it.

Lots and lots of Love to all,

Ami and Abi
