Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.

Acorns Children's Hospice currently cares for over 600 life limited and life threatened children and young people and their families in the region. Our specialist nursing and support services provide a vital lifeline for these families who would face a much tougher challenge coping alone.

We must not let these families down and we are calling on people like you to come forward to help us. (Taken from Acorns website)

The above gives an insight into the charity we as a group have decided to raise money for. This charity has little in terms of government funding and is reliant on donations from people like you and me. Acorns is a local charity that as stated above cares for life limited and life threatened children. It costs £450 a day per room to run and in Selly Oak for example (1 of the 3 sites) they have 10 rooms so thats £4500 a day.

If like ourselves (Neil& Ade visited on 04/05/10) you ever get to see the hospice you can see that this money is well spent caring not just for the child but the family as a whole. I would like to ask anyone who visits this page to also visit www.acorns.org.uk as well as this will give you a decent insight into what this charity is about. The one thought I have, is that NO family should go through such an experince on their own and they dont have to with Acorns here. The one thing that me and Neil picked up on during the visit is how homely and welcoming the hospice is, this is both down to how the Hospice is presented and organised and the fantastic caring staff.

All 3 of us doing the challenge are Police officers in the West Midlands and are on the same Response team. We have never done anything like this before but with quite a few more gym sessions we will make sure we complete it. I suppose this also means I should get a bike!!

We are also doing charity auction if people/companies wish to donate items instead of money, this is will be Held At The Village Hotel, Solihull on 10th September 2010. Night is Black tie Casino Night, £25 a Ticket Includes a 3 Course meal.

We are hoping there will be some local press interest as Acorns will be using there press department and we will contact the press ourselves hoping that we can promote the charity and our event, The Birmingham mail have already stated they will promote the event.
We are basically looking for any donation at all if that be a cash donation, gift donation for the raffle or auction or even equipment that will help the 3 of us with the bike ride.

Companies already donated include,
Lakeland, Shirley Golf, Prestige Photography, Village Hotel/gym, Land Rover Experience, Birmingham mail, EMI records, Liverpool FC, Handmade Burger Company, Pizza Exress, Starbucks, John Lewis, 2X2 Worldwide, Birmingham Hippodrome, Snowdome, PMAS, Dudley zoo, Nando's, Animal, Bar Estila, Birmingham raceway, Solace Spa, Northface, Cadbury, Breitling, Fairlawns Hotel and spa, Wolverhampton Wanderers FC, Shoe Zone

Companies will be thanked at the Charity night to all people attending. If donating companies wish to obtain tickets for the event please let me know and I will email you when everything willbe confirmed. There will be a charge for the event (To cover costs) but you will receive a discount. The event will include a sit down 3 course meal, raffles, Auction and more
