My aim is to trek the GR20, "the toughest waymarked trail in the world". The route through the Corsican mountains involves considerable ups and downs with a total ascent of 41,000ft compared to 's 29,000ft.
Joining me on the trek will be an old friend, Alan Hall, another gentleman of a certain age who should know better! We are, just to make it even more challenging doing the trip unsupported and so will be carrying full rucksacks, camping gear and an ice axe. Water will also be a significant issue because we will need lots of it and it is rather heavy!! By doing the walk in early June, we expect to encounter both heat and snow. Hopefully we may return rather trimmer, so there will be some benefits if our dodgy knees, hips and backs do not give up!
There is considerable information about the GR20 on the internet, but the introduction on http://www.tgomagazine.co.uk/corsica-s-gr20-1.934120 gives a good idea of what lies ahead.
UCARE
We also hope that with your help we can raise a considerable sum for our chosen charity, UCARE (Urology Cancer Research and Education). They are a charity founded by a group of clinicians, patients and supporters who care about fighting urological cancers such as prostate, testicular, kidney and bladder cancer, as they represent 20% of all newly diagnosed cancers. Their aim is to improve the treatment and care of cancer patients through research and education.
We would be grateful for any donation you are able to make. Please go to http://www.justgiving.com/Adrian-CareyGR20
Thank you for your interest and valuable support.
