Thank you for visiting our African Enduro fundraising page for Riders for Health. Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Riders for Health will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you. So what are we doing, what is the challenge and why are we doing it? The event itself will involve up to 200 people riding over 1500 miles across the African bush on 200cc dirt bikes (our part of the event takes place 7-19 Nov). Please don't assume it will be easy, 150 people took part in Enduro Africa 2006 and although all but 9 finished (including all the women) and most came away relatively unscathed, the injury list included 13 broken bones and a punctured lung. One rider miraculously avoided disaster when he literally rode off a cliff on day 2! (Full details may be seen on www.enduroafrica.com). What makes all this so special - well aside from our love of bikes, the charity itself is unique. We are fortunate that there many programmes raising money for medicines and aid for Africa. However, unless this aid actually reaches the people who need it, on a regular basis, and often in remote places, then much of the charitable effort can be wasted. That's where Riders for Health comes in. Next year with your support we should see another 200 bikes going to Africa ensuring more medicines, aid and medical skills can get where and when they are needed most. On a more personal level, whilst this is a challenging trip that will raise much needed aid for some of the poorest parts of Africa, we are extremely excited about Enduro Africa 2007 and are looking forward to it immensely. With this in mind, and to guarantee that 100% of the monies donated through this website (plus the tax gross-up) will go to Riders for Health, each rider has already personally contributed the £4,500 necessary to ensure participation in this charity event. This initial amount covers bike purchase and maintenance, all event costs and the required charitable donation to Riders for Health. The bike itself of course belongs to the charity and will be maintained by them and used to distribute aid in Africa once the ride has ended. In the meantime, as well as some serious training (!), we are hoping to raise as much money for Riders for Health as possible and thank you again for visiting this page. Any donation, whatever the amount, will be received with our heart felt thanks.
