Our son Patrick (aka Paddy, Pdog, Paddlington, the Boy) was born with liver disease. He was diagnosed at two days old and it felt like the world had ended. Over the next few days, weeks and months we came into contact with many fantastic people (nurses, doctors, hospital staff, other parents) that did their best to try to help us to piece our world back together - bit by bit.
At 3 weeks old Paddy was operated on by the wonderful staff at the Birmingham Children's hospital to try to get his liver working and to drain the toxins from his tiny body. The operation and his recovery have been a great success. The Boy has now attained normal liver function and as you can see is thriving (although he is a little bit gobby - which I think comes from his Mother).
This may be the end of treatment for Patrick or it may not.
His liver may deteriorate and need to be transplanted. We simply don't know. And that's the thing - liver disease is a lifelong condition and we don't know enough about its causes and cures. That is why I am raising money for the Children's Liver Disease Foundation (CLDF).
I will be riding (with 3 companions) the 900+ miles from John O Groats to Lands End in the first week of July and would really appreciate your sponsorship. Please help me to raise a significant amount of money so that the CLDF can continue its research programmes and provide the level of support to other familes that we have benefitted from. Believe me when you think your child might die that support can make all the difference.
If you do not donate or I think your donation is insufficient I will send you pictures of my saddle sores - don't make me do it people!
