I have now signed up for the 2010 trek in the Himalayas of Nepal from October 26th to November 2nd.
NSC is an independent specialist residentail college for young people with physical disabilities or acquired brain injuries and aims to enable the students to prepare for the best that adult life can offer through cost effective, innovative programmes of education, training and independence. The Star Appeal aims to raise funds for major improvements to our specialist teaching, learning and living facilities. The capital development will provide more appropriate teaching spaces, student therapies, nursing and support facilities, social and welfare spaces, together with residential accommodation that will enable students to access education and develop their skills. Following Government withdrawal of £5.5m of promised matched funding towards the college's £15.5.m capital development programme all fundraising has taken on increased importance.
Each trekker is challenged to raise at least £2,500.00 (including the costs of the trek); I will cover the actual cost of the trek by other means so all your donations will go direct to the charity appeal. As part of my fundraising and training effort I plan to complete the 26 mile (and 385 yard) Cheltenham Circular Challenge in June and the 21 mile Stroud Five Valleys Walk in September; for the last trek a small group of us walked between 15 and 20 miles each week, on two weekday evenings and one day at the weekend which was a great way to get fit.
