One Year On, plus a couple of weeks and 54 miles

It's done - the whole 54 miles from Hawes to Penrith. Every step of the way I was mindful of all your good wishes and your love and support. And the money! The total continues to grow - and I am grateful on behalf of all the women with breast cancer whose lives will be blessed by your generosity.

Thank you.

In June 2009 I was due to be walking the second half of the Lady Anne Way. This fascinating 100 mile walk runs from Skipton to Penrith and my sister Jan and I had done the first half - as far as Hawes - the year before. We were looking forward to finishing it off, and to spending a walking week together and with our mum. But instead, I had just had my breast cancer diagnosis and was facing quite scary surgery, new breasts, and a long convalescence.

It wasn't an easy time. As well as the love and support from people like you, one of the places that made it easier was Breast Cancer Haven. They offer a range of thoughtful and appropriate services to women with breast cancer. Knowing it was there made a huge difference to me. You can read more about their work (which receives no statutory funding) by following the link on the left.

I don't think that Lady Anne Clifford ever had breast cancer but she certainly had difficulties in her life. You can follow this link to read more about her inspirational story and to see the route of the walk. And follow the photos link to see some images from the week.

Thank you very much.

A reminder for cousins, nieces, sisters: my breast cancer did not have any genetic link

PS: if you are ever looking for holiday accommodation in Cumbria, please follow this plug for Hartley Castle: we had to cancel our booking at short notice last year and they were exceptionally gracious about it.

PPS the small print: Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. They collect your money and any Gift Aid; and they pass it straight to Breast Cancer Haven. They don't use your details for anything else.
