Cari amici appassionati di Texas Hold'em,

vorrei coinvolgere tutti gli amanti di questo gioco, ma anche tutti coloro che vogliono semplicemente dare un contributo, in una raccolta fondi a favore di una bambina africana di nome Ruth e di un orfanotrofio in Kenia chiamato Lewa Children's Home*.

Qualche tempo fa ho conosciuto una persona speciale di nome Sylvia che lavora per un'organizzazione no profit chiamata Bread and Water for Africa UK** che si occupa di raccogliere fondi per l'orfanotrofio di Lewa in Kenia. Questa amica lavorando in Lewa e aiutando gli orfani della comunità ha incontrato Ruth, una bambina estremamente intelligente con un grande potenziale, piena di voglia di vivere e con un senso del sociale fuori dal comune.

Così parlando con Sylvia è nata l'idea di creare una raccolta fondi che sfrutti la mia notorietà nel mondo del poker e cerchi di dare un aiuto concreto all'orfanotrofio.

Ruth avrà 12 anni quest'anno, un'età particolare nel suo sviluppo che determinerà il futuro della sua persona e se non avrà la possibilità di andare a scuola probabilmente i suoi sogni non potranno avverarsi.

La piccola Ruth vuole studiare medicina e diventare un chirurgo.

Purtroppo visto il tasso molto alto di povertà, in Kenia solo il 22% dei bambini che finiscono le medie riescono ad andare al liceo e la percentuale è ancora inferiore per le bambine.

Per mandarla alle medie, l'orfanotrofio annualmente dovrà spendere all'incirca 37.000 KSH (scellino keniota) per iscrizione, libri, quaderni, uniforme, scarpe ecc. approssimativamente 325 euro. Non una grande cifra per noi, ma un'enormità per la comunità di Lewa.

Mentre in media un anno di liceo, fra spese di iscrizione e occorrente costa 88.400 KSH =circa 780 euro moltiplicato per i 4 anni necessari per diplomarsi arriviamo ad una cifra di 3.120 euro.

Quindi Ruth per arrivare all'università ha bisogno di una cifra importante visto che deve frequentare ancora 4 anni di primary school (1.300 euro) e 4 anni di liceo (3.120 euro)

Il mio obiettivo è quello di dare la possibilità a Ruth e ad altri bambini di Lewa non solo di avere un'educazione base, ma anche quella di poter avverare i loro sogni come studiare medicina all'università e diventare un chirurgo. 

Se riusciamo ad arrivare al target di 22.100 euro possiamo mandare Ruth e altri 4 bambini della sua età fino all'università. Un'opportunità incredibile per bambine e bambini che hanno il potenziale di riuscire e diventare modelli per tante altri loro coetanei, ma che non hanno i mezzi economici per poterlo fare.
