Thanks for taking the time to look at my Justgiving page. Taylor was seemingly fit and healthy until May 2010 when he was diagnosed with bladder and kidney problems. Numerous tests determined that he had been born with a defective posterior urethral valve which was preventing him from passing urine. As they were no external symptoms of this problem he had spent his entire 8 years not emptying his bladder properly. As a result of these problems urine backed up in Taylor's system to the point where his kidneys were actually full of urine.
They gave Taylor a supra pubic catheter which drained his system and relieved the pressure on his bladder and kidneys. Once this was done further tests revealed that his left kidney is now useless and his right kidney works at approximately 40% of normal. His bladder has been rendered useless as it has been overstretched too long, it now has no elasticity and the wall of his bladder is thickened.
They have now fitted Taylor with a Mitrofanoff, this is extensive surgery which forms an internal catheter by using his appendix to create a tube from his bladder to a hole in his belly button. He will, (when he has healed) be able to catheterise himself through this hole in his belly button. This is how he will empty his bladder for the rest of his life.
The last 9 months have been very hard for all of us but Taylor has faced it all with a smile and a joke. He is forever cheerful and considerate of other people's feelings.
I want to raise some money for the Breakaway Foundation, they support children with bladder and bowel problems, which is obviously a cause very close to my heart.
Please give whatever you can, all amounts large and small are very gratefully received.
Thank you for reading x
