WHY I'M RUNNING
I'm running the Leicester HALF MARATHON for a really good cause: Leicester & Leicestershire Animal Aid Association. This is an animal rescue centre in Huncote and if it wasn't for places like this, I wouldn't have my gorgeous dog Rascal - so running for a local animal rescue centre is a charity close to my heart. I've not been running for long, so doing a half marathon is a big goal for me - help to keep me motivated through the pain (!) by donating to this worthy cause - even if you can only donate a couple of pounds, it all adds up. THANKS!
ABOUT THE LAALeicester and Leicestershire Animal Aid Association was Founded in 1956
by the late Dorothea Farndon. Over the years the charity has rescued and found
new homes for many thousands of dogs and latterly a significant number of cats
too. From a small start it now occupies a 4 ½ acre freehold site in the
Leicestershire countryside, at Huncote.
The key objectives of the charity are to provide a second chance for
unwanted and homeless dogs and cats. To reunite lost pets with their owners through
its Petfinder Service, and to promote responsible pet ownership by educating
the public in pet care.
Leicester and Leicestershire Animal Aid’s vision is happy pets in
responsible, loving homes.
It is always with a huge thanks to generosity from the local community,
businesses, schools, Leicester Animal Aid members and supporters, that the
centre remains open and continues to provide an invaluable service to the many
animals it rescues, shelters and re-homes.
Leicester and Leicestershire Animal Aid re-home over 550 cats and dogs
each year.
The centre receives no government funding; it is an independent charity
and is solely reliant on kind donations of money through many sources including
sponsorship opportunities like this one.
