I am Allison, living in the north west. Although I have been to the Tate Modern recently, I am not used to being part of an art project! I work as a theatre nurse, and love music [from chamber music to Muse and Kasabian], patchwork, jam making and flower arranging.
I have won a slot on the Anthony Gormley 4th Plinth 'One & Other' project and intend to use my hour on the Plinth to raise awareness of Compassion UK and Stop the Traffik. My slot is 19th September 2-3am!!!!! I am using just giving to raise money for Compassion Uk a Christian child sponsorship charity for which I am an advocate. Donations will go to the "most needed" project.
Anthony Gormley is an artist who has experimented with different ways of engaging with the human subject through sculpture. 'One & Other' is his latest attempt to test the distinction between what we look like and who we are and allows the participants total freedom of self-representation. I will use my hour on the Plinth to highlight issues of child poverty and injustice.
Compassion UK is a Christian child development ministry, which is Christ centred,child focused and run by the local church. Individual sponsors contribute £21 to support one child in a Compassion program where the child receives, spiritual nuturing, healthcare, education and vocational training. Stop the Traffik is a growing global movement of individuals, communities and organisations fighting to prevent the sale of people, protect the traffiked and prosecute the traffikers.
