Well we all did it....and had a fantastic time!!
8am....setting off with 2,500 people from Old Trafford Football Ground we reached the starting line feeling like we were in the Tour De France apart from having to stop Wayne (Man Utd supporter) from taking hundreds of pictures of the stadium to Karen (def not a Man Utd supporter) chatting to the many surrounding lycra clad men!!
The weather forecast had not been good all week so we were really pleased to start the race dry, with even a bit of sun for the first 20mls or so - (more about the weather later!!)
Our first 'proper' stop at 28 mls- (apart from stopping to sort out Susans wobbly rucksack, taking layers of clothes off, then putting layers back on! plus a quick pit stop for packet of wine gums) was at Standish Golf Club where we tucked into bacon butties and mugs of tea all round, and a chance for Karen to get her GHD straightners out and lip gloss on!!
Equipped with bottles of energy drinks, to look professional we were back to it and a chance to get our foot down as the bikes became more spread out - lots of people on the route clapping and cars pipping when they went past - all good (apart from a few Mr Angry Drivers)
45 miles in and the weather decided to test us - with torrential rain, and driving wind - no problem for us cause we had all trained on Morecambe prom and this was the norm!
A quick coffee and cake at Lytham St Annes was just the job, as we seemed to have missed the last official drinks stop somewhere near Preston..... and then Blackpool was in sight.
We decided to race over the finishing line together and with the finish banner in sight, suddenly the wind changed direction and was behind us - we literally flew across the line (nearly taking a couple of traffic cones with us) to a lovely welcome and the thought of a large glass of chilled that had kept us going!
Between us we managed to raise over £1300 for this special charity - so a massive thanks to everybody that has sponsered us - it was a great experience and so very worthwhile.
