Hi everyone - thanks very much for visiting my page.
This July I am going to Uganda with a group of Leeds students to volunteer for a charity called Soft Power Education - whose aim is to improve the quality of life in Uganda through education. Soft Power is working with the Ugandan Ministry of Education as well as local government to try to achieve the UN Millennium Development Goal of Universal Primary Education. Since 2003 this has meant working on a Government Primary School Renovation and Refurbishment Programme. In the summer I will be joining this project, assisting in the building and refurbishment of schools to provide primary education for some of the most underprivileged communities in Uganda.
Before I go on the project I need your help to raise £500. Every penny donated goes directly towards the materials needed for building and refurbishing the schools involved in the project. To give you an idea of what this means:
- £2.50 will buy 100 bricks
- £5 will enable us to buy a shovel or four litres of paint
- £10 will pay the wage of a tradesman for one week
- £20 will provide us with six tonnes of building sand
- £40 will buy a load (8 tonnes) of lake sand or building aggregrate.
- £50 will buy a 1,000 litre water catchment tank
- £100 will pay three teachers' wages at one of our preschools
- £1,000 (for anybody feeling particularly generous!) will refurbish a two classroom primary school block.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity. So it’s the most efficient way to donate.
This will be the 8th year that Leeds University students have gone out to work with Soft Power Education in Uganda, and any donation to help us continue the good work being done will be very much appreciated!
Thanks. Ally
