Story
On Saturday 14 November, 23 members of Alnwick Tri Juniors (along with a little help from their friends) are swimming, biking and running for TEN HOURS to cover as many miles as possible to raise money for CHUF - The Children's Heart Unit Fund which raises money for the Children's Heart Unit at the Freeman Hospital. **UPDATE** One Life Racing of Hexham, inspired by our challenge and because they're a fab bunch of guys and gals, have pledged to do a SIX HOUR triathlon on Sunday 15 November to help us raise funds. #awesome #inittogether.
One of our members is receiving treatment at the Freeman and is waiting for open heart surgery. The other youngsters in the club, inspired by his courage and determination, have decided to raise funds for the charity.
Even when our pal is not well enough to train, he still goes along to help the coaches and is a truly valued member of the club.
He was born with a rare heart condition, called Tetralogy of Fallot, and received life-saving surgery at the Freeman at only six months old. He was also born with a rare congenital condition causing the bottom end of the oesophagus to be joined to the trachea (windpipe), which required major surgery the day after birth.
However, after being unable to do much sport for many years, when he was about 12, he decided to give triathlon ago.
Not one to take the easy route, when he began, he struggled to swim a length in the pool, but with the fantastic support of the club and coaches, he began taking part and completing triathlons last year.
Please help us raise money for this fantastic charity - we will be extremely grateful for any donation you can make. A HUGE thank you from us all at Alnwick Tri Juniors.
