I am running the Brighton Marathon for Mind in April and I hope that as many people as are able will support me in my quest! I chose to run for Mind as I am very passionate about promoting awareness of mental health problems and helping to get rid of the stigma which is attched to them.
As some of you will already know I have had my share of the black dog and have witnessed first hand the labels given and opportunities retracted due to my condition. This is why I believe that it is so important to make everyone aware of how mental health problems can affect sufferers and their families. I mention families because mental health is something which not only affects the sufferer, it's not like having a broken leg, noone can see what's going on in your mind, and in many cases they can not imagine it as they could a sprained wrist or bruised rib. I think that is the hardest part about a mental condition; it is invisible, and too many people choose to turn their backs and ignore it.
I want to help change this, I want to help people with mental health problems become more accepted in society and not feel that they must hide away. I hope that in raising some money for Mind I will be helping them make this become a reality.
