I have worked for a while now in the Heart Valve Bank at the John Radcliffe Hospital and seen the enormous impact that Young Hearts charity has on the children and their families. 

It was set up by local parents of heart children and is run by volunteers to offer support and to make life a little easier. They are a listening ear but also purchase equipment for families; pay for families in need if they have to travel for treatment; and arrange social events so the children can meet others like them, who are going through the same thing. Heart disease affects 1:100 children and is the most common abnormality, some of the children need only one operation, some need many many more.
