About me:
I work at the Health Services Management Centre Library and
Information Service at Birmingham University. I’ve run two half
marathons before at Cardiff and Wolverhampton. I'm a member of the
Halesowen Athletics and Cycling Club and I love running as it gives me space in-between a full-time job and looking after my family.
About the charity:
I'm raising money for Lucia, www.luciacharity.org.uk.
LUCIA is a registered charity that improves the lives of people
living in troubled areas of Africa. "We believe that the key to positive
change is to help the African people, particularly women, to help
themselves via education and long term self sustainable development
projects. In turn, this reduces reliance on international aid.
Instead of simply giving repeated hand-outs of food or money, LUCIA
works towards empowering African communities and individuals, so that
they can become self sufficient and then go on to help others to do the
same. LUCIA does occasionally use a small amount of its money to fund
emergency relief work, as we recognise that some communities will need
this in order to reach the sustainable development phase."
It's a small charity so anything you give will really make a
difference.
About the run:
Following the success of the 2008 event, Birmingham City Council and
EDF Energy have officially launched the 2009 EDF Energy
Birmingham Half Marathon, to be staged on Sunday 11 October at
10am.
There is more information about the Birmingham Half
Marathon on the website:http://www.birminghamhalfmarathon.com/ .
