Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page for Macmillan Cancer Support. Your donations will fund their work which is so vital to so many unfortunate families. And it is a huge motivation to keep me swimming, cycling and running towards Ironman Austria - a daunting challenge.
The facts are that one in three of us will develop some form of cancer during our lifetime.
The Ironman triathlon is a swim of 2.4 miles, a bike ride of 112 miles, followed by a run of 26.2 miles (a marathon). Though it still sounds IMPOSSIBLE to me I am going to give it my best shot.
I consider myself very fortunate that I am fit and healthy enough to even contemplate an event like this.
I've come a long way since my inspirational swimming coach Lynne Sturgeon gave me a few “how not to drown lessons” in the deep end of the swimming pool in 2011. I now truly believe that the buoyancy of my wetsuit WILL keep me afloat! And I have had a bit of practice thrashing around in a mass swim start where I have probably given as good as I got.
And I've been lucky to be part of Edinburgh Triathletes and regular coaching. I can certainly run and cycle - just not sure how long for!!
