<p class="p1"><span class="s1">As you may know, I am running the Silverstone Half Marathon on March 11th 2012 to raise money for the Children’s Heart Federation.</span></p>
<p class="p2"><span class="s1">When my nephew Daniel was 10 weeks old, he had Kawasaki’s Disease, a rare illness which in his case led to aneurysms forming in his coronary arteries.</span></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1">To manage his heart condition, he is given an anticoagulant (warfarin) once a day. His blood is tested regularly by his parents, using a blood testing machine funded by the Children’s Heart Federation.</span></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1">In addition to warfarin, Daniel is given aspirin and ranitidine daily</span></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1">When Daniel’s heart condition was first diagnosed, he had to make weekly hospital visits to monitor his blood coagulation levels until his own self-testing machine became available through the Children’s Heart Federation. I’m sure you can appreciate how valuable having our own machine as a family is to Daniel’s treatment now. However, many families without these machines still have to make regular visits to hospital.</span></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1">As the Children’s Heart Federation’s programme for distributing such vital equipment is inextricably linked to their fundraising, I hope to raise enough money from running this half marathon for the CHF to be able to supply another family with their own self-testing machine, and other vital resources.</span></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1">A Coagulation Self-testing machine typically costs £670, which seems a sensible target for my fundraising. However, every little helps along the way, so please give generously and support me as I run around Silverstone... several times!</span></p>

<p class="p1">I am so grateful to have received so much support so far, and can announce that I have already reached my original fundraising target of £670! With 6 weeks still to go 'til race day, I'm adding another £300 to my fundraising target, which will enable a heart family to stay with their child in hospital for a week of treatment.
