Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On 24th October, I will for the 6th time in the last 10 years find myself lining up at the start of the Snowdon marathon with more than a few questions going through my mind as to how I have got there again (and why haven't I done any more training???)! As an added incentive to get round the somewhat hilly (for starters, the first 4 miles are uphill), but extremely beautiful 26 mile course, this year I am raising money for one of my favourite charities - Send A Cow (http://www.sendacow.org.uk ....and no, I will NOT be running in a cow costume - although might reconsider if there was considerable financial incentive!
Why Send A Cow? Well I fell in love with Africa during a 6 month overland trip there a few (!) years ago. In 2004 I returned to Uganda to see mountain gorillas and on getting back to Bristol decided that I wanted to support a charity which promoted sustainable development in the region. I subsequently found out about Send A Cow which I believe offers a genuine way for people to improve the quality of their lives on a lasting basis.
Send a Cow runs sustainable agricultural programmes in seven countries in Africa to help small-scale farmers overcome poverty and malnutrition. It was founded in 1988 by a group of UK farmers who sent cows to families in post-conflict Uganda. It is a Christian charity, which treats all people equally regardless of race, gender or creed. All those they work with undertake to pass on the benefits they gain, such as livestock and skills, to another family, so the work goes on multiplying throughout communities.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to Send A Cow and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
So please any donations will be much appreciated.
