Everyone of you will know someone or have yourself directly experienced abortion, miscarriage or even an unplanned pregnancy- both men and women. It happens to the best of us... unfortunately it is not an easy topic to experience, talk about or share. It can be an incredibly lonely position to be in and can affect those involved years after the event.
On 22nd of May 2011 I will be running the Edinburgh Half Marathon with the aim of raising money for Amica Pregnancy Crisis Centre. I have been working with Amica for over a year now but I am yet to achieve anything significant for them and I am desperate to impact the organisation. The services they offer are so vital in today's society but due to lack of funding they are constantly restricted as to how much help they can offer. My main aim is to raise funds to refurnish the counselling and waiting rooms as they are very outdated and quite honestly uncomfortable.
If you're reading this thinking you don't want to give money- how about your furniture, negotiating skills, time or hands to help rejuvinate this centre and create a warm, fresh welcoming atmosphere for those in crisis.
Below is a little bit more information on what they offer:
You will find someone who is trained to help you consider the options to enable you to make an informed decision in an unplanned pregnancy without any pressure.

Amica offers free of charge:
- a safe and accepting place when people are faced with a pregnancy crisis.
- confidential pregnancy testing with immediate result.
- the facts and choices available, enabling individuals to make their own informed decision.
- unrestricted time with a trained advisor to consider the options.
- pre and post abortion support.
- miscarriage support.
- the provision of ongoing practical support, advice and information regardless of the decision made.
- involvement with teenage education.
