About International Childcare Trust (ICT)

International Childcare Trust is a small charity which  helps some of the poorest and hardest to reach children in Asia & Africa. Through its local partners it gives children shelter, healthcare, education, training  and  hope for the future .

ICT partners with local grassroots NGOs in Africa and Asia that protect children’s rights; in particular, organisations that address both the causes and effects of child poverty and sickness, and that advance the education of children who are in a condition of need, hardship or distress.

The local organisations that ICT partners with take an integrated approach to child development, combining the delivery of practical assistance with capacity building and advocacy initiatives. Both the effects and the causes of child poverty are addressed by using this integrated approach in order to build sustainability into the projects ICT supports.

Practical assistance includes supporting direct benefits to disadvantaged children, their families and communities, e.g., primary health care, income generation schemes, vocational training and rehabilitation of children back into families and communities. Capacity building is encouraged in every project, so that ICT partners are able to grow into strong organisations in their own right and not become dependent on ICT. Advocacy initiatives are supported, so local communities and governments in Africa and Asia become aware of their rights and take responsibility for addressing their own problems.

About M'Lop Tapang

The Tapang tree, also known as the ‘umbrella tree’ due to its peculiar shape, provides shelter from the elements. M’Lop means shade or protection in Khmer. Just as the Tapang tree provides protection for those who shelter under its branches, M’Lop Tapang provides a safe refuge for the street children of Sihanoukville.

M'Lop Tapang is a community-based NGO founded in 2003, which empowers street children by providing them with the tools, resources and opportunities they need to become productive members of society.

Sihanoukville is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Cambodia due to its pristine beaches, clear waters and nearby tropical islands. The economic activity that tourism brings has, however, attracted large numbers of children to the city, many of whom end up living and working on the streets in extreme poverty. They lack access to basic services such as healthcare and education and are vulnerable to psychological, physical and sexual abuse. M’Lop Tapang represents a safe haven for these children.

Why donate?

This cycle ride and other fundraising efforts provide the lifeblood for International Childcare Trust's survival.  They help fund some of the worlds most vulnerable children in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Camodia, Sri Lanka and India. These projects give deprived children and young people, who have been affected by extreme poverty, family dysfunction, armed conflict and disease, the essentials they need to build a life: shelter, education, healthcare etc.

For example:

£20 would provide basic health care for 30 children

£50 would provide vocational training for 6 children
