A very effective but small charity which is dedicated to giving young people the opportunity of an education that is, literally, life-changing, urgently needs your help. 

The Langalanga Scholarship Fund (LLSF) provides around 20 secondary scholarships a year to very bright but extremely needy youngsters from the rural area around the town of Gilgil in Kenya.  The area is semi-arid and the people are mainly subsistence farmers. There is little money to pay for a secondary education and most children end their education after primary school.

LLSF has awarded 220 scholarships since 1999 and over 90% have completed secondary education so well that they have been allocated competitive places at universities and colleges in Kenya. When a scholar achieves such a place on merit, they are further supported with a tertiary scholarship.

Thanks to the work of the Langalanga Scholarship Fund, Kenya is stronger today because it now has:  

·         4 more nurses (2 with midwifery qualifications)              

·         9 ore accountants                                                     

·         4 more teachers

·         2 more pharmacists

·         3 more artists/graphic designers

·         3 more engineers

·         2 more human resource managers

·         2 more IT technicians

·         3 more bankers

                   and

·         1 more television journalist  

These young people had no hope before they won their scholarship - their future was truly bleak and such a lot of potential would have been lost to their communities and the country of Kenya! 

One recently qualified accountant wrote to say,  “ …your wonderful work of delivering the rare gift of education to poor, young Kenyans will always be felt by different generations.  Its impact is gradually being felt in different parts of Kenya. To my fellow scholars, may the Lord guide you in your day to day activities and remember a candle has been lit up, it’s upon you to keep it burning.  When you positively mould the life of a person, remember the generation to follow will always live to celebrate his/her success.”

The Langalanga Scholarship Fund supports many more bright scholars in secondary schools who are desperate to follow similar professional courses at universities and colleges in Kenya but the cost of tertiary education is much greater and LLSF urgently needs help to ensure that those scholars still at secondary school have the same chance to gain an education that will, quite literally, change their lives.
