I'm running in the 2010 Bath Half Marathon to raise money for Trees for Cities, a brilliant charity that plants trees in the most deprived areas of our biggest cities, giving people who don't have gardens better places to live and work.
I'm looking to raise a massive £1,000. Here are some ideas of Trees for Cities projects:
- £25 could go towards planting a fruiting orchard in Addis Ababa in Ethiopia, providing fruit for local people to eat or sell to fund more tree planting.
- £50 can help run a fun educational workshop for inner city children, teaching them how to plant and look after trees, or even to climb them! Some kids don't have the freedom to play in natural surroundings and this is such an important part of learning and development.
- £250 can give a young adult a fresh start through an accredited training course in horticulture, arboriculture or woodland management.
Since moving to Somerset I've loved living in a leafy environment and am struck by the stark contrast with our street in Cardiff. I'm so pleased that Charlie has the chance to play among trees and in fields like I did, and I really want to give inner-city kids the same quality of childhood.
Let me worry about the 13 miles of running - but please help me by giving generously to this fantastic cause!
Thanks!
