Hello Everyone
Here is my story, please help Shelter!
Last year while working in Cambridge a homeless person asked me for
money while I was using the cash machine. I did not react well to this
approach; I responded verbally in a very aggressive manor, I felt quite
threatened by this situation. I walked away feeling very guilty. I knew nothing
about the person or the cards that life had dealt them. This was a moment of
clarity for me and I decided to commit to a monthly contribution to
Shelter. In this time of economic uncertainty organisations such as Shelter are
providing a lifeline that makes a really difference.

A bit about me
About five years ago I used to weigh 21 1/2 stone Or around 137Kg in new money.
Since then I have managed to shed 34Kg, I still have a way to go ;) One of the
reasons that I have been able to keep the weigh off is regular exercise.
I had been running on a treadmill in the gym for about a year, no more than 5Km
at a time, when I received an email from a colleague (Thanks Marjory) inviting
all staff to join her in running the Jane Tomlinson 10Km in York. This gave me
a focus and I absolutely loved it. The camaraderie leading up to the event, my
competitive streak trying to run sub 60 minutes, and the added bonus of raising
money for Yorkshire Air Ambulance (I'm a keen motorcyclist, you never know). I
was hooked!
Back to Cambridge, whilst working onsite, I worked with a great bunch one of
whom was entering the London Marathon. After been inspired by him I entered the
ballot, after all I had little to no chance of getting a place until the fifth
year! Running a marathon has been a lifelong dream of mine, and for many years
something that I never thought possible. After completing the 10Km I could see
the faint possibility that I could maybe one day actually run the marathon!
I did not get a place in the ballot but by now I had run two (over) half marathon
distances (14 miles) and completed ten miles in Bradford run in 1h 41m, which
was very hilly. I contacted Shelter to apply to run for them with a commitment to
raise at least £1600.
They said yes!
I am running for Shelter (every time I say that it tickles me).
That’s my story
This is where you come in. Please help me raise money for this excellent cause,
Give Generously.
