Story

Archie was born in June 2011 with Tetralogy of Fallot, a congenital heart defect. He's not alone, one birth in every hundred is affected by a CHD. Despite showing no signs or symptoms of his life threatening condition, Archie had to have open heart surgery at 8 months old. In theatre he developed some problems and ended up in a controlled coma in the intensive care unit of Yorkhill Hospital. Archie is now home and fighting fit, fully recovered, but with the prospect of being a heart patient for the rest of his life. He is ready to thank some of the amazing charities who have helped him on his way, starting with Ronald MacDonald House.

Archie will make his way to his local croileagan (nursery) under his own steam, and that of his Mum... With mum's help, he will be carried in his back carrier, pushed in his buggy and will walk himself. No mean feat normally, but Archie lives almost 20 km from croileagan, down a road renowned for its mountainous twists and turns... And, he isn't even a year old yet! He will do it in three manageable sections (on different days) and timing will be entirely dependent on favourable weather conditions - we are setting no dates but aim to have completed the challenge by mid November.

We hope to raise enough to be able to thank Ronald MacDonald House, where Mum and Dad were given a room for free for as long as we needed it. This comfortable 'home from home' is a lifeline for many families, and one thing we learnt from the experience is that no matter how terrible your own story, there are people coping with much worse, and relying on Ronald MacDonald for affordable shelter close to their loved ones. We don't know how we'd have coped without them, and want to thank them, and to help them to help other families.

Please dig deep folks!
