Over the last year I have become part of a small group of runners in Chineham and have been fortunate to call one of them in particular a friend. Philip told me about the charity he raises for and about Emma his Niece that suffers from a rare Kidney disease. I have pledged to raise money for this charity for 2010 through entering a number of races to raise sponsorship including:

The Reading Half Marathon
The Great North Run
The Great South Run
The London Duathlon

Below is a letter I received from Philips sister and the reason I am raising for Nest.

Hi Jon, Ashley & Tracey,

We just wanted to say a very personal thank you for aiming to raise money for NeST on your forthcoming runs.

I expect Philip has told you all about our daughter Emma and her fund raising efforts since last summer and her amazing total so far on her web page (www.justgiving.com/emma-kidney-cope).

Emma was very ill 2 Christmases ago and was eventually diagnosed with a severe and very rare kidney disease.  When she finally stabilised around about last Easter she decided that she wasn't satisfied with the doctors telling her that there's no cure, so she decided to embark on a massive fund raising campaign to raise as much money as possible for research into her illness.  So now 13, and not quite a year later, she has raised nearly £20,000 and is still carrying on.

Your efforts to raise much needed funds for this small charity is very much appreciated - we can't even tell you how much it means to us.

Emma is so incredibly brave and such an inspiration and we're extremely proud of her and how she has maintained a positive attitude throughout her many ordeals.  She is absolutely convinced that one day they will find a cure for her illness and that she will go on to live a long, happy and healthy life.  But a cure will only be found if the doctors have the resources to do their research and unfortunately money is what is required.  Your donations to the charity will hopefully make a difference and will help the doctors to find a cure for Emma's illness which will transform her life and make her future so much brighter, than the bleakness that lies ahead of her.

We really appreciate your support - it really does means a lot to us.

Much love,

Sandra, Ian, Emma & Lisa Cope
